Loving Our Neighbors
St. John’s is part of the Tower Grove South neighborhood and the wider South City community, and we believe being a church means being a good neighbor.
Our life together extends beyond Sunday worship and into the streets, parks, organizations, and gathering places around us. We share meals with our neighbors, support young people in the juvenile justice system, help strengthen access to food, and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community alongside our neighbors in Tower Grove and throughout St. Louis.
We believe loving our neighbors means knowing them, listening to them, sharing what we have, and working together for a community where every person can experience dignity, belonging, and hope.
Our community ministry
There is always room at the table.
Since 2006, St. John’s has welcomed our neighbors to the Peace Meal, a free fellowship meal served every Saturday afternoon in our Parish Hall. The meal is open to everyone, and fellowship is at the heart of the ministry.
We know that a meal by itself cannot solve poverty, inequality, or loneliness. But sharing a table can build connection. It can remind us that we belong to one another.
The Peace Meal is intentionally simple: we cook, we eat, and we share time together.
When: Saturdays, 4:00–5:30 p.m.
Where: St. John’s Parish Hall, 3664 Arsenal St.

Sharing what we have.
Food is one of the most basic ways we care for one another.
St. John’s supports Isaiah 58 Ministries, a cooperative ministry serving the near south side of St. Louis. Isaiah 58 brings area churches, restaurants, grocers, businesses, and volunteers together to strengthen food outreach in our community, including food pantry programs. St. John’s contributes food donations each month.

Every young person is worthy of dignity and hope.
St. John’s supports Episcopal City Mission, which works alongside young people involved in the juvenile justice system.
As part of this ministry, St. John’s hosts two birthday parties each year for young people being held at the City Detention Center.
A birthday celebration may seem like a small thing. But for a young person experiencing detention, being remembered and celebrated can be a powerful reminder that they are more than their circumstances

Love belongs here.
Tower Grove Pride brings together LGBTQIA+ neighbors, allies, local businesses, artists, nonprofits, and community organizations each September in Tower Grove Park. St. John’s participates by hosting a booth, partnering with other progressive churches for an ecumenical Mass on the Grass service, and showing up alongside our LGBTQ+ neighbors.
For us, Pride is both celebration and community. It is a chance to listen, build relationships, learn from our neighbors, and make visible our belief that every person is made in the image of God and deserves to live with dignity, joy, and belonging.
And sometimes loving our neighbors looks like simply being there: waving hello, sharing a conversation, handing someone a bottle of water, and celebrating together.
